I am looking to try a microphone for my tenor and alto. Something for gigs, but I am hoping to keep it simple. Recommendations?
Best Microphone for amplification for gigs
David, I’m not quite sure how I missed your question on the thread here, but I always just like a plain old Shure SM 58 for most gigs. It’s reasonably priced and gives you a little room to work the mic. I’m not a clip-on fan but have to use one every now and then.
David, as Randy said, the Shure 58 fits in with keeping things simple. A Shure 57 is essentially the same microphone without the vocalist screen. For me, the wireless clip-on is my favorite set-up since it gives me more freedom to move around on a crowded stage. I use a Samson Airline 77(?); this model has been superseded but you can often find them used at a great price. The great thing about this Samson is that you don't have a separate belt transmitter to plug in to, the mike and transmitter are self-contained in the clip-on. Also, it has a mute switch for when you're not soloing.
